    The SAT is an undergraduate standardised test conducted by the College Board and administered on the Bluebook App. The SAT is taken by final year high school students or high school pass outs who wish to study in US, Canada, UK or any other country for a UG program. The SAT exam question is tested in a multiple-choice question format and a few student-produced responses (SPR) type of questions. 

    The SAT exam evaluates the students’ written, verbal, analytical and mathematical skills.  The duration of the SAT exam is 2 hours and 14 minutes, with an additional 10-minute break. Feel free to attempt as many questions as you can, as there is no negative marking for incorrect or unanswered questions on the SAT exams. 

    NOTE: As of March 2023, the SAT exam has been changed to the SAT Digital Exam. This test now follows a computer-adaptive formatThe pencil-and-paper-based SAT has been scrapped by the College Board.

    What is SAT Exam?

    SAT is an undergraduate standardised entrance test commonly taken by 11th and 12th students to assess their aptitude for college admissions abroad. The SAT result provides a standardised measure of students’ academic aptitude and readiness for college-level studies. Indian students planning to study in Canada, USA, UK, Italy, and other countries that accept the SAT must submit their SAT scores for undergraduate admissions. 

    The online SAT is an MCQ and SRP-based exam taken on the Bluebook App using a computer, laptop, or iPad in India. The exam consists of two sections: (1) Reading and Writing (RW) and (2) Math. Each section is scored out of 800, totaling a maximum score of 1600. Students should register early to secure their preferred SAT exam date at designated SAT test centers.

    SAT Exam Eligibility 2025

    The College Board, the governing body of the SATs, has not listed any specific SAT eligibility criteria for students taking the SAT exam.

    1. Age: There is no specific age requirement; however, most students take the SAT in their junior or senior year of high school, which typically falls within the 17 to 19-year-old age group.
    2. Education Level: Generally, students in high school or who have completed high school are eligible to register for the SAT. It is common for students in grades 11 and 12 to take the exam.
    3. Registration: You must register for the SAT by creating an account on the College Board website and completing the registration process, which includes selecting a test date and location.
    4. Payment: A registration fee is required, unless you qualify for a fee waiver, which is available to eligible low-income students. (This applies only to Indian applicants applying to Indian universities. This provision does not apply to international students.) 
    5. Identification: A valid photo ID is required to enter the testing centre on test day.

    Candidates looking to appear for the SAT exam need to register for it. Candidates need to be aware of the SAT exam date 2025 India. Candidates are advised to register for their SAT exam before the SAT registration deadline to avoid any last-minute stress.     NOTE: *Students who wish to borrow a device from the College Board should register and request one at least 30 days before the actual registration deadline of the exam to allow time for international shipping. Once the device is shipped, students CANNOT change their exam registration date. Apart from these, there are also other upcoming SAT exam dates in India for the weekend. The other upcoming SAT exam dates in India are scheduled to be conducted in the months of August, September, October, November and December. 

    Also, applicants must know that all SAT exam deadlines ideally expire at 11:59 p.m. ET, U.S. (9:29 a.m. IST).

    Please note: The College Board now predefines eight SAT exam dates in 2025. The new SAT date has been added in September. Applicants now have eight SAT exam dates to choose from to appear for the exam in 2025. Registration deadlines shall be announced soon.

    Steps to Register for SAT 2025

    SAT registration details are elaborated in this section. Unlike any other exam registration, SAT registrations can happen online in six easy steps.

    1. The applicants will first have to do a SAT sign up on the College Board website and click on Register for the SAT Digital exam.
    2. Once the sign-up is complete, the applicants will be prompted on the registration page.
    3. Applicants can fill in all the major details like personal details, academic details, grades and extra-curricular activities.
    4. After submitting all the details, applicants can choose their SAT date and their SAT exam centre.
    5. The next step is to upload a headshot photograph.
    6. Finally, check all the details and submit the online SAT exam application with the requisite fee.

    SAT Cancellation & Late Registration Fees

    Cancelling your SAT Registration is expensive, and students are always advised to change their date rather than cancel the exam entirely. Candidates should note that SAT registration fees cannot be refunded after five days before the test day. Check out the SAT cancellation and late registration fee in the table below:

    Applicants must note that there is no option to reschedule the SAT exam date. To change the SAT exam date, applicants must cancel their existing registration, for which they will incur a cancellation fee. After cancelling, the applicants must re-register for the SAT exam with a new date and pay the SAT exam registration fee again. 

    The fees are dynamic and can change without prior notice from the College Board. Therefore, applicants must verify the fee and then make the payment.
